CBS News ran the following story on their website, Thursday April 9, 2009:
"Chicago Students Face Daily Violence
CBS Evening News: 32 Public School Students Have Been Killed This School Year, As South Side Violence Rages."
My take on this issue:
Perhaps, President Obama should forget about Iraq and Afghanistan, and take the $80 Billion dollars he will spend on those wars, and instead put some of the troops---not on the border between the USA and Mexico, but on his own south side of Chicago, and other violent cities.
If gang violence, drugs, and poverty are actually killing our own children, while they try to go to public school, maybe the government should bring back the National Guard from these horrible places around the globe and protect America's kids.
I know that this sounds reactionary, but probably not to an innocent child, just trying to go to school on a weekday, without looking over their shoulder every hour.
You may get nervous by driving downtown at night--just think about 10 year old children, who get that type of nervous going to a classroom.
If our government can't keep our children safe at home, while protecting children abroad, some serious questions have to be asked---such as---what the hell is going on?
