In politics, the attack always means more than the defense of such an attack.
Hillary Clinton has already gone into "attack mode," in Texas.
The issue: Debates.
Although the Democratic Presidential Candidates have had about 15 face to face debates, Senator Clinton is demanding one a week with Barack Obama.
She needs to "stop the bleeding" in this primary contest in Texas.
Senator Obama is now, just starting to make inroads to Hillary's voter's: Whites, Women and to some extent, Hispanics.
The former First Lady, needs to freeze the Texas Democratic electorate in place...and the way to do that is form some sort of phony attack ad(debates), which does not effect Obama's political base, but puts some doubt into those who would switch votes, at this late stage.
The Senator from Illinois, is going to have a tough time beating Clinton in Texas and Ohio. These are two big states.
If Clinton wins Texas and Ohio, she can claim that, only she, can win the big states in the fall.
Because the voting in the Democratic Primary is proportional, Mr. Obama may still be in front with delegates (not counting super delegates).
The big advantage Senator Obama has in Texas: Time.
He has a couple of weeks to make his case in Texas and Ohio, where he did not have that opportunity in California, for example.
Somehow (I'm not sure how) he is going to have to turn around the Latino vote...to get a larger share of that vote.
Michele Obama is a great asset to the campaign. The Princeton graduate is as classy as Jackie Kennedy..and I hope she can crisscross Texas and Ohio.
However, my political instincts, still say that Barack Obama must get a little more down to earth..and lay out specific issue plans, in a dramatic way, to capture the news media and the electorate...going into the March 4th, Primaries.
